Band Stand
The circus carnival theme is strong in this image, not because of the clothes but the location. It has a after the carnival is finished at the end. I like the band stand out side location. The band stand is slightly rusty and old it gives it a slightly darker side. The park and day time light gives it a traveling feel and creates interesting shadows in the photo. As Nottingham Arboretum has a band stand this would be a good location for are photo shoot. The story of performers messing around after the shows finished slightly more disheveled but fun.
Display styling traveling circus
The recent trend for pop up temporary stores I feel is a good concept of how are theme would work. Like the traveling circus pop up stores are temporary. We could use pop up rides and animals and have it displayed in a big top. So are shop display would be a pop up fairground/ circus. I feel this is a really fun aspect and could really push the theme. Either paper animals and rides bright colours and lights. They need to be a spectacle and with the strong circus theme could really work.
Above is a pop up dome in Metropolis mall Indiana and The Reebok pop up store in NYC.
Another shop styling I felt Incorporated are theme and we could collaborate with was Irregular Choice in Carnby Street. The bright contrasting colours. patterns and display suit the colour palette we are developing and feel we could collaborate with this. The differnet textured surface works reall well too.
Another aspect I would like to incorporate in are shop window, pop up shop is have hanging big bubbles with items of clothing, accessories in. It links with the displays at are catwalk show.
Graphic styling for trend board
The way the image is put together with the bright colours, cut out objects and the sequence of the layout would be good inspiration for our trend board. Taking our image of a rabbit to replace the frog and other inspirational photos and piecing it together in a random way to represent our trend and story.

Ashish Catwalk Show AW09/10
At the start of this video I really loved the girl doing tricks with the floating hoop. I could invision one of our models doing this in the centre of our circular runway. Also she could be blowing bubbles which would fit in well with the props we have been experimenting with.

Piano Circus Music
This piece of music is very upbeat and in keeping with our theme. It would allow the models to clown around using props down the catwalk.

TimeSplitters 2 Music - Circus
This song is very quirky and I could imagine the models being able to clown around to this music.

Britney Spears - Circus
This video of Britney Spears- Circus is really inspirational for prop ideas and the movement of how they are used. Potential props for our photo shoot could be: An umbrella, Stilts, top hat, long flowing ribbon, cane, hoops and animals. Also it is also useful to observe there contemporary take on circus attire.

Stilt Faeries - Circus Contraption
This music has a more eerie quality to it but I could invision it on a catwalk.

Circus! Theme Music
This could be the potential music played whilst our models walk down the catwalk. It is quirky and a classic circus tune.
Topsy Turvy - Hunchback of Notre Dame
I looked into this video from hunchback of Notre Dame as it is very quirky and we share the same title: Topsey Turvey. Also thoughout you can see clowns and jesters which is useful to look at for outfit inspiration.

J. Smith esquire: MA graduation collection, RCA, 2007
I really love the music in this catwalk production runway show. It fits really well with the circus theme. Its also inspiring to look at what accessories they are wearing and the styles of clothes. For our catwalk production of Topsey Turvey I image people clowning around coming down the runway which can be seen in this video.

We have talked about having body art work, if we were to do this out photo shoots could look really cool with a close up of some funky body art.
I like how in this photo there is the vanishing point on the right handside. Also the whole shape of the models upper body creates an interesting shape.
It is the photograph on the right hand side that I really enjoy. I like the use of the purple filter on the camera, it adds another colour to the clothing and overall photo. Also the expression of the model is fun and in your face. Plus the way the model is standing with her hands on her hips creates a dramatci body shape.
I like how in this photo the model is right in the middle wih equal spacing of negative space around her. Alos the models face has a fun expression of, this would be great in our own photo shoot because of the playful element.
In this photo I enjoy the expression on the models face. I like the way she is looking into the distance. Also the mixture of the texture of the brick wall with the clothes works really well.
These photos have a real theatrical look to them. They have a structured and yet have a spontaneous aspect to them. They will work well with our idea of big costumes and bright colours.
These 4 photos have a really fun spontaneous look and feel to them. They have the feeling of movement and that is what we want achieve in our own photo shoot.
I particularly love the whole style of this shoot because the creative way the use of the same model in 3 different poses creates a really interesting and fun overall shoot. This could be used to add a fun and playful aspect to out shoot.
I really like the relaxed look of this photo. It has a look that it really isn't really staged and forced.
As we are thinking about looking at very extravagant make up this close up style of photography could be a good way forward with our photo shoot.
I like this pose because though it is very staged it still has a free movement with the placing of the arm behind the head. This could work for our photo shoot to give it this playful element.

We are interested in making our own pom poms to add to garments. Throughout my research I have seen quite a few interpretations of pom pom outfits. The second image above was the main inspiration for this idea. The image is taken from POP magazine Issue 21, Autumn/ Winter. I love the sculptural element it gives to the garment. The first image taken from Vogue December 2008 shows pom poms used on part of a garment.
Dramatic Hair Styles
These are very dramatic hairstyles. I researched these as something to consider for potential hairstyles. But its not saying we will definatly have dramatic hairstyles to this extreme in our photoshoot. I love the idea of adding elements to the hair. In two of the images above baloons and post its are used to add a dramatic element. Galliano uses raised, structured hair to draw attention. I feel it may look too edwardian for our style.
Extreme Body Paint
Show Girl
I have chosen these variety of images as they really inspire the show girl element of our Topsey Turvey photo shoot. I love the use of whacky top hats and gem makeup eyes. I feel glitter would be a big element to portraying a show girl. This teamed with hats and exagerated ruffled collars.

The first and fourth image is taken from Vogue June 2009 - Article Show and Tell, photographed by Paolo Roversi.
Vogue February 2009 is where the top hat image is taken from.
Circus Themed Social
In these images you can see a variety of outfits that have been individually interpreted for a Circus themed social. Mainly a showgirl vibe can be seen. Its interesting how they have layered there outfits and I particularly love the top hats and big bows that have been used. Also I find it inspiring how each girl has added more emphasis to one eye. This seems to be a common interpretation of a show girl.
